Technology Announcements
Instructional Technology
Students at PLES are heading into the new school year with exceptional technological resources and skills. The school has a state of the art technology lab and has been updated with 30 new ASUS computers with 22 inch flat screen monitors. Each teacher at PLES has a Dell laptop, new document camera and a mini lab of 3-4 computers in each classroom. Every classroom has a 42 inch flat screen HDTV to compliment the laptop and document cameras.  Students are working with advanced multimedia packages, digital technologies, use a wide variety of software packages and use the Internet to support their classroom learning experience. Some of the packages include: Microsoft Office 2007, Math Facts in a Flash with a home version that supports learning at home, Sight Words, Google Earth, Windows Movie Maker and many more. Students develop skills in keyboarding, word processing, and have a deeper understanding of the multiple uses of technology that enhance their educational endeavors.
6th Grade Robotics Exploratory

This hands-on class will use Lego Mindstorms Educational robotics kits.  Students in this course will get to design, build and program robots to do various challanges.  Each challange builds on a set of newly learned skills and higher level of programming.  Students will learn the basics of engineering and apply problem solving skills to complete these unique challanges.
6th Grade Technology Exploratory
Students will learn about the development of the 20th century technology revolution presented through the eight part Intel video titled "The Journey Inside:The Computer".  They will also have an opportunity to break into a computer and see the inner working parts.  We will disassemble a machine and learn how to update and replace the various parts. Students in this class will be expanding their technology skills and learning about digital technologies such as video production, editing and presentation.  As well, students will do some beginning archetectural drawing and be exposed to CAD.
CYBER SMART
Students are learning about appropriate computer use, research and Internet safety.  Other topics include Cyber Bullying, Cyber Space, 21st Century Trends and other topics that help students to understand the complexities of the Information Superhighway.
